The Young Americans, are returning to Garnock Academy
on 23 Sept 2016. Any pupil can apply to take part - see Mrs Shedden!
The Young Americans are a touring educational company for the performing arts and was founded in 1962.
During the 1960’s and 70’s the Young Americans would appear in numerous variety shows with entertainers such as Judy Garland, Johnny Mathis, Julie Andrews and Dean Martin. In recent years the group have focused on providing music education and performance opportunities for young people around the world.
The International Outreach Tours promote the importance of music education by bringing music workshops to pupils in an innovative and creative learning environment that fosters artistic, intellectual and personal growth for those interested in becoming performers or arts educators or those who simply wish to extent their own personal horizons.
When the group return, they will be hosted by families in the Garnock Valley area during their 3 day stay. The workshop event will be coordinated by our very own Mrs Shedden. She said: “It will be a hectic few days of outstanding workshops and lot of preparatory work. However, seeing the end result with two extraordinary concerts will exceed all our expectations and make everything so worthwhile. I think the pupils from North Ayrshire will remember the weekend in later life with a happy smile. It truly will be amazing.”
